DIVElizabeth I--the Virgin Queen--refused to commit herself to any man, although one illustrious suitor after another endeavored to ally himself with her in the most intimate of treaties. In the only history available on this ever-fascinating subject, meet the many men who competed fruitlessly for Elizabeth's hand and affections. During the intricate marriage negotiations, romance inextricably blended with diplomacy, and Elizabeth played one prospective groom against the other, always exploiting the
One of the most important rulers in history, Elizabeth I came to the throne at a time when England was under threat of annexation from abroad and collapse from within. This is possibly one of the oddest books I've seen - essential for any royalist, it dates from 1936 and has on every page a picture of a British royal, and a dog (or five). It's hard backed and full of pics of Queen Elizabeth as a snip of a girl, with her sister Margaret and her mum and dad, King George and the Queen Mum. This book was printed just months before George became King, so he's still reffered to as the Duke Of York in it. A book of royals + dogs = very surreal. Each picture has a little caption
