The castle has Norman origins and dates from the late 11th century. It is mentioned in the Domesday Book (completed in 1086) which states that at that time it was in the possession of Baldwin de Brionne, the Sheriff of Devon. Much of the surviving masonry, including the bulk of the Keep and the curtain walls, is of fourteenth century construction. On
I love the mixture of the old with the new, don't you? Here is a great example, a vintage postage stamp, encased in a commercially made sterling holder with a glass cover to preserve the stamp. It is a work of art, which stamps frequently are. A hand dyed silk ribbon has been added to match the colors in the stamp, "Voila, a perfect match". These are definitely one of a kind but other stamp designs are available. The stamp is from a Great Britain series of 1975 honoring the British Painter, J.M.W. Turner.
