A fine boxed set of 12 sterling silver demitasse spoons in Gorham's 1896 "Maryland" pattern. The fronts of the handles are decorated scrolls, shells and pendant bouquets, while the backs are accented with simple scrolling and a shell motif near the bowls. The bowls are parcel gilt. This is a particularly lovely pattern--ornate, but not over the top. The spoons bear full hallmarks for Sheffield, 1934, along with design registry numbers for 1918 and the maker's mark for Mappin & Webb. One of England's leading silversmiths, Mappin & Webb is the official silversmith and jeweler to England's royal family. The inside of the box's lid is marked with their logo.The spoons are in mint condition; the box has slight wear on the inside lid. Spoons are 4-1/2" long.
12 Whiting Sterling Silver LILY OF THE VALLEY Demitasse Spoons A lovely set of twelve sterling silver demitasse spoons by Whiting. This pattern, probably referred to as Â"39Â", was most likely only made as demitasse spoons. Whiting produced a number of patterns in the 1880s and 90s that were limited in this way. The handles, beautifully decorated with a pierced pattern of lilies of the valley, blend into corkscrew twist stems that connect to bowls enhanced with repousse decoration of chrysanthemums. Exactly
A very handsomely decorated set of 12 sterling silver demitasse spoons. The handles are finely decorated with a cast and pierced stylized bellflower. The swirling character of the finial design nicely contrasts with the more angular line of the lower handles and the oval bowls. The backs are fully marked with Swedish hallmarks for 830 silver, including the town mark for Norberg. Origin: Sweden, ca. 1940. Condition: excellent, all original, no monograms. Size: 4-1/16" long. Outstanding set of 12 sterling silver demitasse spoons in Gorham's "No. 409" pattern, designed in 1885. The pattern is very complex and seems to combine Celtic knot designs with Moorish- or Turkish-inspired floral designs--typical of Gorham's Arts & Crafts style. The bowls retain their original gilding. The backs are marked with Gorham's older hallmark.Origin: America, circa 1885. Condition: mint, appear to have been barely used. Size: 4-5/32" long.
