Beautifully fashioned punch ladle with a generous, elongated, oval-shaped ladle, a long stainless steel shaft, and a sterling handle. The overall length of the ladle is 14". The handle itself is approx. 4 1/8" long and the ladle is 5.5" x 3.25" x 2". The edges of the ladle are scalloped and turned out. A very graceful ladle in excellent condition.

A wonderful English Georgian (circa 1740-1760) sterling silver toddy ladle / punch ladle with baleen handle. The ladle is inset with a George II silver shilling. Toddy ladles (sometimes called punch ladles) were very popular in the 18th and 19th Century. They were used for mixing in the tumbler or cocktail bowl, and for lifting a portion of it into a glass. This wonderful and unusual sterling ladle is marked TPR Nov. 24, 1766 on the front side of this intricately molded dipper. There is a highly detailed floral pattern with a shilling pattern on the bottom. There are the shields of the four UK countries in a cross form with E.T.Hib Reg08 Mag Brier around the parameter.
