This estate piece is a very nice oval art deco Carlton Ware Rouge Royale dish/plate/bowl in the Spiders Web pattern. This shape, 1977/2, is called a scroll handled bowl and was produced between 1939 and 1961. The Spiders Web pattern is from the 1950 s. Carlton Ware was made at the Carlton Works of Stoke-on-Trent, England, beginning around 1890. This Carlton Ware 7 1/4 inches tall pitcher is from the Rouge Royale series. The design is called New Mikado and features a tall building with pagoda roofs, weeping willow tree, and flowers on an island. A solitary figure stands on the island. The reverse side has a scene of a moon bridge with a pagoda and two flying storks. A man in a barge is polling in front of the bridge and has a lantern dangling from a pole to light the way. Carlton Ware, England, produced the Rouge Royale Coffee pot from 1952-62. The shape is a modified quatrefoil and the red flambe glaze with gold contrast reflects the mid-century modern aesthetic. This set includes 6 demitasse size cups and saucers with gold interiors. The pot measures 7 1/2 inches to the top of the gold finial. The gold gilding is around the foot, inner rim, handle, spout, lid and finial and is in very good condition. The red glaze is also unmarred except for light mottling on both sides.
