The Chancay archeological site offers Felipe Giron a wealth of inspiration for the design of this copper-colored tray. Painting freehand on glass Giron expertly replicates the ladder patterns that adorned Chancay ceramics and textiles. For this tray he prepares a palette of red orange and yellow with an antiqued finish featuring gilt applications.
Deftly shaping copper Ana Maria Enciso crafts a vase that personifies a Chancay deity. The narrow neck becomes a face and shining headdress while arms emerge from the rounded belly. On the back pre-Hispanic icons in bright bronze contrast beautifully with the blue green copper.
