by marcel wanders for moooi. the sponge vase was initially designed for droog design. an organic shape like a natural sponge is a very difficult shape to achieve in porcelain using traditional molds. so marcel wanders developed a way to produce porcelains without them. in this case, a natural sponge is taken and dipped in fluid porcelain clay. after drying, the porcelain impregnated dry sponge is cured in a regular ceramic oven. the sponge burns away, leaving a perfect copy of its fine shapes. in this way,
