This sampler dates from the early part of the 19th century. It is a United Kingdom sampler with the alphabet and numbers in various forms. It ends with a nice heart at the bottom. For the life of me I cannot determine the name at the bottom. It appears as CAXL, but in looking at the A's in other lines of the sampler, the X could be an A. If so, I do not know what I think is an A is. The sampler has no holes, but it does have a few missing stitches. The light blue has faded so that it is barely visible. The
19th Century Sampler Persons and Flowers This beautiful sampler is not dated or signed. Considering work and material I would estimate (very conservative) it about 1880. The canvas has a beautiful warm yellowish age tone. The stitching is good preserved, colors a little bit pale. There are some stitching losses, especially along the lovely edge flower garland and a hole. The canvas is made of two parts, a small addition to the top; visible but not annoying. Measurements: 11.2 x 16.8 inches.
