Heubach German Bisque Swinger - Hanging Match Holder This Victorian era hanging match holder is known as a swinger. They were made to be filled with matches and hung from the base of a hanging kerosene lamp. When you pulled on the little girls body, the chandelier came down from the ceiling to enable you or the maid to ignite or extinguish the candles or the gas. How elegant! I believe this one to be Heubach. If you are familiar with Heubach you know that you can identify Heubach by the trademark faces only
This vintage bisque piece has all the whimsey of a Schafer & Vater piece but is not marked as such. The little boy looks like a Katzenjammer Kid sitting at a small table eating ....meatballs? that look like golf balls! It is open in the back and was probably used to hold matches. It is marked Germany on the back along with a number. There appears to something else but is rather garbled like it was mis-struck. The colors are soft, except for the green hat and the black on the utensils. It measures about 3
This is a old match safe. It has the initials "T S" or "F S" marked on one side. It is also marked "G SILVER" on the inside edge. There is a strike plate on the bottom front and back. It measures 1-1/2" wide and 2-3/4" high. The hinge is in good working order. Please click on the picture to see all these details. Thank

Known primarily for his hammered iron pieces, Goberg (Hugo Berger) also dabbled successfully in brass, making some very rare and highly sought-after items. Besides being considered a metal-fabricator of the Arts & Crafts era, Goberg is also closely associated with the German Jugendstil or Secessionist movement of the same time frame. What we are offering here is one of the most unusual signed
This vintage whimsy was made by the S & V company of Germany and it epitomizes bliss. A fat sailor holds his plump, bare foot bathing beauty proudly and they both seem very happy. The back portion of the sailor is open and was probably intended to be used for holding matches which could be struck on the slightly textured side or bottom. On the bottom it is marked with the Schafer & Vater crown mark and the mold number 7127. This is generally much better in character and quality than the versions made in
