Rated 93-95 - Last but not least, and looking just as good as the 2010, the 2011 Merlot Northridge Vineyard presents an inky purple color to go with a knockout nose of creme de cassis, crushed stone-like minerality, violets and graphite. Full-bodied, supple and concentrated, with integrated acidity, sweet fruit and building tannin, it should be reasonably approachable on release and deliver the goods for upwards of a decade. This wine is from Chile, Maule region. The Maule Valley in Chile. The 2006 Erasmo is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc from dry farmed Bordeaux clones aged in French oak barrels for 18 to 20 months. It has an interesting bouquet with notes of balsam, lavender and rosemary that takes some time to get accustomed to. The palate is medium-bodied with a saline entry. It offers quite bold, grainy, earthy tannins that lead to a foursquare finish offering ample fruit
Wine Enthusiast ReviewRated 90Exceptionally rich and sensual, this single-vineyard beauty has finely ground, dusty tannins. The fruit veers toward sour cherry candy, with a jacket of sweet, toasty oak. Drink now-2016.All of our vineyards yield wines that are distinct and recognizable from year to year. The signature flavors for Chicken Ranch are earth and dried herbs. This is textbook Rutherford Merlot. The color is deep, the nose is ripe and tinged with olives, leather and sage, and the flavors are ripe
RP-91 Points The 2007 Merlot is a sumptuous, round, silky generous, delicious effort offering plenty of berry fruit, mocha, and chocolatey undertones. Like so many wines that have emerged from this Spring Mountain vineyard, it offers delicious drinking . Enjoy it over the next 7-8 years.
Wine Advocate Review Rated 93 First produced in 2009, the 2010 Merlot Stoneridge Vineyard would be a perfect introduction into the Bordeaux blends of this estate. Spending 26 months in 50% new French oak, it offers up a ripe, rich array of plum sauce, black olive, kirsch, cedar and gravel to go with a soft, supple and beautifully fruited palate. Medium-bodied, with an approachable feel, it nevertheless has a great mid-palate and at least a decade of longevity. Drink now-2020. Aromas of a old leather bound

The Merlot is a velvety wine with a complex nose of blueberry pie, raspberry jam, cedar, vanilla and spice. A fleshy and generous mouthfeel is followed by notes of bittersweet chocolate, clove and toffee. This wine has full, generous tannins that coat the palate, impressive length and lasting acidity.

Pull the cork on any bottle of Shafer Merlot and you will find a forward, stylish Merlot that takes center stage with all its appealing varietal fruit, not a Merlot that plays understudy to a Cabernet Sauvignon. Only small percentages of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon are blended in to complement, but not overshadow, the Merlot itself. 2010 was a very good year for Merlot. We harvested on October 4th, sorted by hand and de-stemmed prior to partial crushing and fermentation in a stainless steel tank. The wine aged in a selection of French and American oak barrels (60% new) for 20 months, and we bottled it without filtration or fining of any kind. The resulting wine is absolutely succulent, with notes of sweet berries, vanilla and spice. Steve Heimoff at Wine Enthusiast had these very kind words for us: “This easy-to-drink Merlot is
