These little Strawberry Poison Arrow frogs are very small in real life--usually less than 1" long! They often vary in color and the three shown here are among the most brightly colored with their brilliant orange-red bodies and bright blue legs. They live in the rainforests in Central America from Nicaragua to Panama. Their bright colors announce the poisons of their skin to their predators. Feeding mostly on ants and other small insects and larvae they forage in ground litter in the morning hours. The male

The brilliant colorings of the family Dendrobatidae are a warning to predators. Toxic substances secreted by these tiny frogs of the Central and South American rainforest are used by the native peoples to poison hunting arrows.
