This unused postcard shows the narrow gauge passenger train from the Denver and Rio Grande line. The Durango to Silverton "Varnish Haul" was the line's last regularly scheduled passenger train and became a great tourist attraction. The card is in very good condition and was a part of a series of cards that were together in perforated "tear apart" fashion. This card has been neatly and carefully separated from its companions.

Road # D&RGW 46400 40' Drop Bottom Gondola Part #MTL-083 00 060 New: Nov 2008 This 40' drop-bottom gondola is painted black with white logo and lettering. It was built in January 1948 by Pressed Steel Car, serviced in January 1964 at the Burnham Shops in Denver, CO, and runs on Roller Bearing trucks. The D&RGW dropbottom gondolas serviced through the 1970s wore the 1939 flying "Rio Grande" paint scheme. Due to their capacity, the 50-ton cars were retired in the mid-1970s.
