Description : these bura "phalluses" were buried with the head pointing upwards towards the sky. Often, when these kind of pieces are excavated, the tops are severely damaged, this example is in relatively good shape with the cracks located in the middle and base. The raised design on this piece is especially well done.

TCA007 Djenne, Mali Djenne 5" tall Very Good.. Description: Excavated in Mali near the town of Djenne this piece dates from 800 AD to 1400 AD. This is quite obviously a ritual vessel which would indicate that there was a coexistence of traditional animist religion and Islam in the region around Djenne over the centuries.
