From Sir William Jardine's 1833 'The Naturalist's Library', a sumptuous hand-colored engraving featuring 'Trochilus Petasphorus. Violet-Tufted Humming Bird.' Finely etched & published by William H. Lizars of Edinburgh, *the* engraver of his time. The top edge is gold tipped & the paper measures approx 4" x 6.625" (10 x 16.8 cm). With the protective tissue cover still attached, the page shows very little tanning to betray its 175+ years. The edges are clean & clear & the corner tips have only just softened.
